Chief Medical Director, National Hospital Abuja (NHA), Dr Olusegun Ajuwon, yesterday said in Abuja that the conjoined twins delivered at the hospital in March, died yesterday. Ajuwon told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the hospital was at the verge of informing parents of the need to "let one of them go, for the other to survive when they died. "Paediatricians, Paediatric Surgeons and other medical experts in the hospital who examined the twins had noted in their evaluation report that the possibility of separating them would be slim. "Both of them shared too many vital organs and there was no way the hospital was going to separate them without sacrificing one for the other, Ajuwon said. He said the twins had two different infections, which further lowered their immunity. Leader of the medical team that handled the case, Dr Isah Audu, told NAN that "the picture for separation of the twins is not too good, separating them is going to be difficult.?BR>Audu, who is also Director, Medical Services at the hospital, said separating the twins would be difficult as they shared the same liver and bladder. |
