Baby with conjoined heads born in Myanmar

YANGON: A baby boy was born with rare conjoined heads in Kyaukme, Myanmar's Shan state, recently, a local weekly reported Wednesday. With a single heart, the infant, given birth by Daw Aye Aye Mu, is having only 25 percent of the possibility of being alive, the Myanmar Newsweek said, quoting research by experts. The status is medically termed as dicephaly monozygotic conjoined birth, a rare case only occurring one out of 80,000 births, the report added. In 2001, a female conjoined twins -- Moe Ma Ma Aung and Moe Pa Pa Aung, joined at the position of hip with ischiopagus, were born in Mandalay, but were successfully separated through surgical operation in Mandalay Hospital in August 2002. |
