Morris twins win Test tour together

Morris brothers Brett and Josh will become the first twins in 17 years to tour for Australia after the St George Illawarra star was called into the Four Nations squad on Thursday. Tryscoring winger Brett Morris was added to the Kangaroos after Brisbane's Israel Folau withdrew with an ankle injury. Bulldogs centre Josh Morris had already been selected in the 24-man squad after his standout season, which included a NSW State of Origin debut, since leaving the Dragons. The selection means the identical Morris brothers will become the first pair of twins to be selected for Australia since Kevin and Kerrod Walters, who played two Tests in 1991 before touring with the World Cup squad in 1992. "It's not everyday you get called into an Australian tour so I'm obviously very honoured to get the call up and just can't wait to get over there," Brett said. "Josh already knew because he has been up there training today and he was waiting for me to call and sort of put it one me and said 'I already know you idiot!" "Having him there will help me a lot and it's great to have both brothers in the team." Brett's addition to the Kangaroos also ends the biggest Test snub in more than 50 years after the minor premier Dragons were overlooked for the Four Nations touring party. Dragons coach Wayne Bennett had questioned why his players had been left out of the Kangaroos squad, incumbent winger Darius Boyd dumped despite solid performances in the May 8 Test and Queensland's State of Origin triumph. Boyd was expected to be called in after Folau's injury, but it was Brett who won the battle, completing a fairytale season which saw him claim the NRL tryscoring title. Brett said he had yet to speak to Bennett since his call-up but thanked his coach for all the help and advice through the year. "Obviously the side they named is very strong and probably a few of the boys are a bit unlucky," he said. "But they've named their side the way they wanted to take it and you can't blame them for that. "You feel for them because you know how hard they put in this year." (Edit:Ruby) |
