The X Factor Travesty

This is getting out of hand! Jedward are unstoppable. How could this have happened?

From the moment it was announced Jedward were in the bottom two against Lucie - one of the best vocalists left in the competition - I was ready to break out the champagne.

Surely Jedward were on their way out, destined to join the increasingly large pack of 'former X Factor stars' now performing in pubs and holiday camps.

Never again would I have to suffer the torment of watching the tuneless twins leap around the stage like over-excited six-year-olds on Christmas morning. Their final performance of Rock DJ made me dizzy.

I mean, come on, who wants John & Edward blasting out of their radio? No one. I'd rather bring back Mr Blobby.

But it didn't happen.

Admittedly, the public's love affair with Jedward is cooling off - they were in the bottom two after all. But it's not over quite yet.

Obviously a few people out there enjoy nothing more than watching the weekly murder of a classic hit. What a bloodthirsty lot.

I presumed that Dannii, Cheryl and Simon would all quickly cast their vote for Lucie to stay and that would be that. Well, actually, I presumed Lucie wouldn't be in the bottom two at all and we'd get rid of Lloyd.

But Simon did the unthinkable. He took it to deadlock - a common occurrence this year - despite calling Jedward's performances "horrific".

"I got a lot of stick last week for talking it down to the public vote," he said. "I'm going to let the public decide." Er, ok. That makes sense.

Tell me, what exactly is the point of the judges if not to override the public when they insist on keeping in dross?

A devastated Lucie mumbled: "I'm gutted but the boys deserve to be here and they work harder than anyone." Well, let's be honest, they need to.

So it looks like John & Edward are here for another week, hanging around like a couple of unwanted poltergeists. Anyone want to call Ghost Busters?
