Cornish twin sisters Jo and Sarah Murray have been selected for Great Britain's youth hockey squad. The pair, who are from Perranwell, have been invited to attend a training camp in Birmingham in December The 18-year-olds' selection came after a series of vigorous trials, which they both passed with flying colours. Sarah said: "A couple of days after the trials the email was sent and we were just hoping that we both got through so that one of us didn't miss out." The sisters learnt their skills at the Truro College Hockey Academy, one of the few centres of excellence in the Duchy. Sarah, who plays in defence, told BBC Radio Cornwall: "Hockey is a really good sport to play, it's fun and quite sociable as well. "But it would be good if we had more facilities because we only have a few astroturfs in Cornwall that are sand-based, whereas water-based would be the better type." The GB training sessions in Birmingham will test the twins' skills against the other top young players in the country. And Jo, who plays at left-inner in attack, is looking forward to the challenge. She said: "They'll be a lot of fitness at the start and then you go into different teams and you play against each other. "They'll be a lot of skill testing so it tests you on your awareness on the pitch, your ability to make quick decisions and your all round ability." (Edit:Ruby) |
