A man who allegedly raped and stabbed a 39-year-old Venice woman who was pregnant with twins was charged Thursday with three counts of murder.
Boneetio Kentro Washington, 22, of Culver City, could potentially face the death penalty. He was expected to be arraigned on Thursday at the Airport Branch Courthouse.

Washington, who is being held without bail, was charged with three counts of capital murder, including the special circumstances of multiple murders, murder during a rape and murder during a burglary. He was also charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual penetration.

The woman --identified by the District Attorney's Office only as Eun K. -- was attacked about 10 p.m. Tuesday in her apartment in the 1600 block of Electric Avenue near Venice Boulevard, police said.

As officers arrived in response to a call, they saw a suspect fleeing from a home and took him into custody without incident, according to police.

When officers entered the victim's home, they found her suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. She was taken to a hospital where she died.

The woman was four months pregnant, police said. It was initially believed only one fetus had been destroyed, but it was determined later Tuesday that the woman had been carrying twins, according to police.

The woman's full name was withheld pending family notification, said Investigator Jerry McKibben of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty for Washington.
In September, Washington pleaded no contest to a felony count of residential burglary and placed on three years probation. His sentence also included 335 days in jail, but he was given credit for time he already served.
