The government said it would take a decision on the issue of nationality of the twins of a German couple born of a surrogate mother when the matter reaches the Ministry of External Affairs.

"When the application reaches MEA, we will take care," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told reporters here tonight.

He was asked what action his ministry would take when the application seeking the twins' Indian citizenship reaches his office.

It's been two years since German surrogate twins Leonard and Nikolas were born, but they are not citizens of any country. German laws do not accept surrogacy, while India is yet to grant citizenship to the twins.

The matter is currently being heard by the Supreme Court.
