Identical twins Alex and Rowan Chambers used to argue but dancing has brought them closer than ever. Now the teenage pair, who form street dance duo Double Up, are bidding for a 100,000 prize on Sky 1's twinkletoed talent search, Got To Dance, hosted by Davina McCall. They impressed the judges, including Ashley Banjo, leader of street dance group Diversity, winners of Britain's Got Talent, who praised the twins' "musicality and timing". Yet when they were younger, like many siblings, Rowan and Alex used to bicker. Rowan said: "It was just little things, the tiniest things. "We used to fight but we're fine now. We just ended up getting on, I don't really know how it happened. Dancing helps because we're always together." When parents Lynn and Granville split the twins, now 16, chose to live apart at first. Rowan said: "I lived at my dad's and Alex went and lived at my Mum's. But we're back together now." Alex said: "I lived with my Mum in Adlington and my brother lived in Chorley with my Dad. "But when people say that we fight and stuff, it's wrong. I don't like people saying that. "Dancing does help in a way but we are twins so we were close anyway." Both now live with their Mum in Lancaster Place, Adlington, and began dancing in a group called ABDC at their school St Michael's, in Chorley a year ago. Their teacher Mrs Goss quickly spotted their ability and suggested they go to Sunshine Studios in Bolton. Alex said: "Our teacher told us about an audition and we just went for it and we got into this group. She just likes to give people opportunities and she saw we liked street dance a lot more than other people so she told us about it and we went for it." Their closeness helps their dancing too. Alex said: "We're on the same level so it's not like you have to teach the other person. "He just gets what I get straight away. "Everyone says twins have that psychic thing but that's stupid. "We just teach each other and it's good communication." Ashley Banjo was impressed by their audition to Gill Scott's He Loves Me and Beyonce's Sweet Dreams. Alex said: "It was actually quite annoying with the cameras and stuff, we're not used to that. "But it was an experience. We went to see what it was like and it was fun." (Edit:Ruby) |
