Fontana Summit girls basketball coach Alexis Barile had twins early Thursday morning at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana, with daughter Kendra and son Howie arriving 10 weeks premature at 4:44 and 4:46 a.m., respectively.

"They're doing good, and we're very happy," said Alexis by cell phone from her hospital bed Monday morning.

LaTrina Duncan has been named the interim coach of the SkyHawks, said Summit athletic director Ed Kearby. Duncan coached Summit to a 48-47 victory Saturday against Santa Margarita in the Adidas Challenge at Anaheim Magnolia High.

"It's a cool thing," Kearby said. "They wanted to be parents and now they have a boy and a girl. We had Plan B in place, but Plan B came a lot sooner than we thought."

Alexis is the only head coach Summit has ever had. Her husband, Tony Barile, is the Summit football coach.

"It is what it is," said Kearby, who is delighted at the twins' arrival. "I have no idea when Alexis might come back -- it might not be this year ... the babies may have to stay (at the hospital) for a while until they get bigger. It may be 2-3 more weeks. After that it will be up to Alexis and her family what she does."

Kearby added he has the "utmost confidence" in the coaching abilities of Duncan, who formerly assisted Chris Stephens at Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos.

The Summit AD also said Tony Barile remains as the SkyHawks football coach, and there has been no discussion of him stepping aside due to the birth of the twins and the huge change in lifestyle for the Bariles.

Said Tony Barile by text message Monday regarding his status as coach: "I am very happy! All of my thoughts right now are with my family. I will make decisions regarding coaching later."

Tony Barile led the SkyHawks to a 6-6 record this past fall, including a huge victory over Perris Citrus Hill, ending the Hawks' 38-game winning streak.
