Lopez twins, Brook and Robin, re-unite in Phoenix

There have been only six set of twins in the NBA , and the Lopez kids are the only ones who were first-round picks in the same draft. Now they get to face each other in the center jump at around 7:07 p.m. mountain time tonight. Historic stuff, and it should be treated as such. But Brook was asked whether they were going to break out the secret twin handshake, and he dismissed the idea. Meanwhile, Robin, the hairy one, admitted that form held when the family got together for dinner Wednesday night -- nobody talked basketball. No, it's not like they just want to get it over with. They just want to play without having to talk about why this game would mean any more than the next one. Because for these two kids, it doesn't. "It's awfully convenient," Robin said of the matchup this morning, whatever that means. "It's weird," Brook said. "He'll probably beat me up a lot and make all my shots difficult. So it's not going to be a fun one." Robin, by the way, had 19-7-3 against Marc Gasol Sunday. He's a high-energy guy, cut from the Varejao-Noah mold, and his coaches love him. More on this in the a.m. By the way: They don't know whether they're identical. "The doctor never said," said Brook, who was born a minute earlier. "Pretty darn close." Close, but you have to stand next to them to realize there are differences. Brook is a massive figure; Robin seems shorter and more sculpted. And the latter's voice is pitched just a bit higher.
