Parasitic Fetus Endangering Weak Life

Parasitic fetus is a parasitic phenomenon of twins during the mother’s pregnancy. So, the parasitic fetus and the host are twin brothers or sisters. But the premature parasite can endanger the life of the twin brother or sister.

On December 23, 2009, a surgery was held in Harbin children's hospital. The patient was a four-month-old female baby. Her CT and color dopplar ultrasound diagnosis displayed parasitic fetus (the mother may have been pregnant with twins, but one fetus got into the belly of the other one), and it was quite a rare case.

Wang Qihan was a baby less than half a year old, and she was struggling hard with the disease. With congenital lesions in the stomach, her abdominal mass grew larger and larger, making it more and more difficult for her to breathe. Her feet were swelling slowly too. It has become difficult for her to drink milk. According to doctors at Harbin children's hospital, the baby came into the hospital on December 20, and she was 7 kilograms heavy with bulging tummy like a basketball. The baby had been crying because of the illness torturing.

The baby’s father Wang JiMin is a common Harbin farmer. They lived in remote forestry area and lived on timber. Because of the recent forest protecting policy, he performed manual works in cities for a living. Without skills, he earned a little. He had aged parents at home too. The family came to wit’s end. The baby was the hope for the whole family, and the disease mad the family despaired.

Knowing that poor Wang Qihan’s family couldn’t afford the emergent surgery, Zhang Xudong, initiator as well as executive director of "Happy angel foundation" came to Harbin. He got to know the treatment issues and decided to make the first beneficiary in Harbin for the charity action. The Happy angel foundation will pay for the surgery for the baby.

With joint support, Wang Qihan was sent into the operating room at 2 pm on the 23rd. The hospital vice President Li Huaining directed, and the director of the 2nd surgery department Zhang Shiwei did the surgery. The swollen thing got removed, with the parasitic kidney. Then medical experts in urological department did auxiliary surgical operation for the baby. The operation went on well. Wang qihan was sent into the ICU room after the surgery. We hope everything goes well for her. The family may face harder life in future, and we hope people can lend a hand for the family.
