Even as ace figure skating twins Rachel Flatt and Mirai Nagasu, have been billed as strong contenders at the upcoming Winter Olympics at Vancouver, it would appear that their success at the sporting extravaganza is far from guaranteed. As per a latest report, carried by American daily Los Angeles Times, it is learned that the graceful figure skating belles from the United States, who have copped several heady sporting laurels over their distinguished careers, will be competing with the likes of World Champions Kim Yu-Na, Mao Asada and Miki Ando at the Winter Games, in snowy Vancouver. At least on the face off it, it would appear that Mirai Nagasu is not showing any pressures of her upcoming challenge and sought strike a lighter note, saying, "We get the best seats because we're athletes. And I'm really excited about all the free stuff we'll get. I hope a medal will come too." She seemed further to exude confidence about her medal prospects in the Winter Games next month, saying, "Bring it on." However, the ladies, it would appear, can sure take a lot of heart from the Games' history, as no United States team since 1964, has left the Winter Olympics without bagging a medal. Despite sounding confident about their medal prospects, the task is indeed cut out for the American figure skating aces, as they will up against South Korean Kim Yu Na and Japanese skater Mao Asada and Miki Ando, who have all won the World Title in the last three years. However, despite the sheer enormity of the task, Nagasu insists, "It's just Rachael and me, and we're just going to blow them away." We sure hope that the girls can translate their words into deeds come the Winter Games! (Edit:Ruby) |
