Autistic Twins in Prickly Love, Welfare Sense for Post 90s

In May 2008, Zhang Junyang met with a young mother with her autistic twins Dawei and Xiaowei accidentally. He got so deeply shocked. He had never known that autistic children have such different childhood and he felt that these kids need to be cared by the society because they have been ignored.

Therefore, 18-year-old Zhang Junyang and his friends came up with an idea to make a documentary for these kids so that the whole society can feel the lives of autistic children and can pay attention to them. Most directors on internet born in the 90s have themes like love, rebellion, loneliness, or internet, but Zhang Junyang chose the theme of the first autistic children documentary, Lonely Angel.

Many people do not understand why such a fashionable child chooses such a theme far away from his world. Zhang Junyang thinks that a person needs to focus on the society and on daily lives, especially some grassroots, so as to make meaningful movies, and to be a good director.

It is difficult to make documentaries. In the beginning it requires a lot of source materials as well as patience. But those children made it. They recorded the daily details in the autistic twins Dawei and Xiaowei’s lives. With rigorous editing, they presented the twins’ lonely and fragile heart thoroughly. They also depicted the twins’ brave mother who never gives up.

After the completion of the documentary, they got interviewed by various media in Fujian. After seeing this documentary, people get deeply shocked, not only by the autistic twins in the works, but also by the social responsibility of these 18-year-old children.

This was not an impulsive or sensationalistic action by Zhang Junyang. Two years later, he and his team appeared to Dawei and Xiaowei again, shooting Lonely Angels, sequel for Prickly Love. This time, they recorded the changes of the twins and the help they had got in these two years. These children proved with actions that their social responsibility is as important as their dreams for film.

With the popularity of Prickly Love on the network platform, there are many people commenting with their respect to Zhuang Junyang and his friends. A netizen left a message saying: I am a mother of an autistic child, and I have been very depressed these years, not knowing how to face my life and my child. Thanks for your film, and it has given people a chance to understand the difficulty of families like mine. It has made people to care for autistic children. We have got a lot of help. You have done a great job.

Zhang Junyang was born in 1990. Since the first shoot at the age 17, he has shoot 13 DV works with his team. There is a horror film created by Zhang Junyang himself. It was about the story for two young musicians to realize their dreams. However, they met with setbacks from so called ghosts, and had some frustrations on the way towards dreams. The film refers to the film dreams of Zhang Junyang and his classmates. He said with a smile that it should be a youth inspirational film. ZhangJunYang and his friends benefited a lot from this "funny film", which spread fast on internet and got reported in some major media and news in Fujian. They even got interviewed exclusively. These young have been sure about their film dreams.

Now, Zhang Junyang is a freshman majoring in English. He loves movies, music, literature, and he will keep pursuing for the dream of film. In order to get more chances for exercising, he applied for the program "I want to film" with his works Prickly Love. Compared with professional directors, Zhang Junyang knows that he still needs more preparation. But he wasn’t worried. He said that he had his own advantage, "I'm still young! I want to film!"
