Mother Sells Lotus to Fulfill Daughter's University Dream

At Feifeng Street, Anqing Rd. of Luyang District in the capital city still lingers the cry, "Selling sticky rice lotus". "I can earn two Yuan for each kilo. Selling at least 15 kilos per day, then I can support the food four all the four members in my family. If I can earn more, then I can save for my daughters'  tuition." 48-year-old Dai Li' ai has supported her family like this for 14years. Her twin daughters are now studying in university successfully.

Dai Li' ai says that she would keep selling lotus until the day she becomes too old to yell. Her daughters want to learn to knit a pair of wool gloves for their mother to sell lotus in chilly wind.

Her daughters have known about her difficulty since childhood. From primary school onwards, the twins Han Yu and Han Tingting have been feeling bitter and moved.  Each time they pass by after school, their mother would stop yelling to ask, "Have you eaten? It's cold outside, and hurry home for your homework." When they want to help with sell lotus, their mother would point at the elbow. Han Yu says that they understand that their mother means time is precious.

"Once in a painting class in primary school, the teacher asked us to paint with the theme 'mother's gift', and we both draw wool gloves." Han Yu said that they thought their mother was so hard and a pair of gloves would warm her up.

The clock shows 11 o'clock. Han Yu looked out of the window and said without any choices, "My mother has been frozen there for three hours. I went there just now and got to know that she hadn' t sold many in the morning. She has to stand there for a whole day and we feel sorry as daughters."

Disabled father keeps around the fire switch every night

"For a good price, the lotus in the oven has to be well cared to stop from overcooking from time to time." Han Yu said that this tiresome task falls on their father Han Fasan.

61-year-old Han Fasan has his leg disabled and he still suffers from cataract. However, he does all the tasks of buying, processing, and cooking lotus. He tells reporters that his wife has busy days and would collapse if she doesn't rest well. Whatever difficulty they meet, they would keep it from their children since they want the twin t focus on study.
 
"We are very fortunate that our parents have two pairs of big heavy hands, which provided for shelter at our childhood and provide for out tuition now." Han Yu said that their mother's hands used to be chilled and their father's full of oven dust, but their hands are so important for them to rely on.

Realize parents'  difficulty from part-time experience

Two years ago, Han Yu and her sister Han Tingting both got admitted into university, but Han Fasan and wife did not feel easy at all. "The tuition for the two children is our burden. Hard as we may live, we have to let them finish study successfully." Dai Li' ai said like this.

In university, Han Yu complained about her mother' s "business", "Since it is making money, they should do something that can make a larger profit rather than earning so little being frozen in the cold wind."

Han Yu went to a company to do a part-time. She got so tired and earned only 30Yuan that day. Hurrying back home, she saw the familiar figure still selling lotus. She said that she not got moved but also understood the meaning of earning money through hard work.

"New Year is approaching, my sister and I want to knit a pair of wool gloves for my mother and we hope our family can use gas at home, then our mother will feel warm when selling lotus and my father will find it convenient to cook lotus."
