The Hani is one of the majority hill tribe in Yuanyang county, they live mostly on mid and high altitude area. Hani are originated from the ancient Qiang people, lived in a faraway land call "nu-ma-a-mei". But with wars broke out they then began to migrated southward, and finally settled down in the forest area south of the Red river. The main festivals of the Hani are the offering sacrifice to the guarding god of the village (ji-long), the June new year and October new year. There are more than 11 sub-group of Hani in Yuanyang county. |
