The 7th China Mojiang Tropic of Cancer International Twins Festival And Hani Sol

The press conference of the 7th China Mojiang Tropic of Cancer International Twins Festival and Hani Solar Festival was held in Kunming by the county committee and county government of Mojiang on December 29, 2010. Li Hong, vice secretary and deputy county magistrate made a speech in the conference, introducing that the 7th China Mojiang Tropic of Cancer International Twins Festival and Hani Solar Festival sponsored by the county committee and county government of Mojiang and Yunnan TV station will be held in Mojiang Hani autonomous county from May 1 to May 2, 2011. The festival will be directed by the government, run by the market, and joined by the society. 

It is learned that there have been six festivals of China Mojiang Tropic of Cancer International Twins Festival and Hani Solar Festival held successfully since 2005. They helped in introducing Mojiang for the reputation. In order to further popularize the cultural brand of Mojiang as an ethnic county of Hani minority, a city of the tropic of cancer, and a home for twins, the 7th China Mojiang Tropic of Cancer International Twins Festival and Hani Solar Festival will be held on time in Mojiang county. Singing band Angles (Jing Hong & Jing Xiang), who won the championship in the Happy Gemini competition last year will act as the image spokespersons.  The festival will weed through the old to bring forth the new in the traditional cerebrating activities, and pursue for deep culture of twins.

Grand talk show will be presented from March in Yunnan TV by a creating group who used to do CCTV program Tell It Like It Is, and the hostess He Jing will be invited for such talk show for some hot issues like the family education, financial problems, and social help for twins, so as to present the increasing human concern for twins and twins’s families in twins hometown Mojiang.

There will be twin’s talent show too. Image spokespersons for next twin’s festival will be chosen then. Traditional annual activities like twins’ parade, water games, and charcoal ash scraping will be arranged to fully present twins’ festivous culture of Mojiang.

Li Hong, vice secretary and deputy county magistrate of Mojiang introduced that Mojiang has a population of 380,000, with 73% minorities. 61.8% of the total population are Hani ethnic popular. As an important passage on the traditional tea-horse road and Kunming-Bangkok road, Mojiang has prosperous business and trade. With the goal of an cultural tourism trade town on the Kunming-Bangkok road, the local government has come up with the developing strategy of develop the green biological economic county, the Hani culture exhibition center, and the cultural tourism trade town of the international passage on the tropic of cancer. With one city (city on the tropic of cancer), two lines (tropic of caner, Kunming-Bangkok international passage), three rivers (Ar’mo river, Sinan river, Lixian river), and four scenic spots (garden of tropic of cancer, Bixi old town, tea-horse road on Zhongke Mountain on the passage, and high gorges and flat lakes on the water dam of the power station for the three parallel river watershed), the cultural tourism pattern will not only integrate Hani culture, tropic of cancer culture, tea-horse-road culture, and industrial and commercial culture, but also coordinate with city development. 

The twins’ festival has become a name card for Mojiang, and has played an active role in enhancing the development of Mojiang tourism. It is estimated that during the 6th twins’ festival in 2010, there were 113,000 tourists, which was 8.7% more than the year before, bringing in 16,000,000 Yuan tourism income, which was 9.1% more than the year before, and there was a occupancy rate of 99% in the hotels, rising by 2% compared with than the year before. The 7th festival will still focus on the cultural brand as an ethnic county of Hani minority, a city of the tropic of cancer, and a home for twins to integrate resources for better tourism economy and for rapid development.
