The Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, can recall only three times in their lives when they spent as long as a week apart. Each separation went badly and involved a lot of talking by phone. In 1996, when they were 17, the United States Tennis Association sent Bob to Europe to play in junior Wimbledon and the French junior championships. "I was miserable without my brother," Bob says. Mike, who qualified for the tournaments, hurt his knee and stayed home to finish 12th grade. "He called me from his hotel every morning and every night, but it was weird,Mike says. "My best friend was gone." |
