It's getting impossible to like the X Factor

The high point (like most things on this show) had nothing to do with singing - namely the humiliation of Dannii 'Oscar' Minogue whose barbed comment about Danyl's bi-sexuality was a moment of comedy tumbleweed worthy of Vic Reeves. You could see the colour drain away from the plastic death-mask she calls her face as Cowell, like some forbidding headmaster, asked her to repeat what she'd said.
Still it made sense the master of plastic pop pastiche was here to advise them. Olly - a faux Jay-Kay (himself a wannabe Stevie) - sang She's The One. Rikki and his silly hat came as Mark Ronson, another master of karaoke soul. Lloyd - the new Adam Rickitt - sang (or tried to sing) Timberlake's Cry Me a River. "Maybe he shouldn't go for the high notes" was the great vocalist's brilliant but typical advice. Thanks for that vote of confidence Robbie! Lloyd had no dance moves and couldn't even hit the low notes. "You are a born pop star!" trilled Louis Walsh like a scratched record. "You didn't get the high notes. But who cares!" I do!! |
