TWIST: Are you guys single or taken?
Zach: I'm single! And you can say he's single too.
Josh: I might not wake up tomorrow, I'll be killed! I'm not single.
TWIST: How did you decide what instruments you wanted to learn to play?
Zach: I stole my mom's gift because she got a grand piano for her birthday and I was like, "You're never going to use this," so I just decided to take it up.
Josh: He just took her piano and I took her guitar and we were like, "Do girls really like this?"
TWIST: Do you write your songs together?
Zach: Yeah, we both write them. It's funny because we've both written together every day and I actually wrote by myself for the first time last week and I was pretty nervous about it. I was like, "What if he hates me?" Mostly we write together, but it's a melting pot of ideas. Like, he'll come up with a really cool guitar riff and maybe I'll have a cool title or he'll have a cool line. So it's really like controlled chaos.
TWIST: You write a lot about love. Do you write about personal experiences?
Josh: Yeah.
Zach: We draw from different things from our lives and life situations, and maybe from other people's lives.
TWIST: You have a song on "A Very Special Christmas," with some other huge names like Miley, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Carrie Underwood, Sean Kingston..What song did you sing?
Zach: "Let It Snow." When you hear it, what you learn about us is that we don't like to do stuff that's standard. We like to do stuff that you've never heard before. So, with "Let It Snow," I went on to iTunes and listened to all the versions and we wanted to make it different from those. We made a really cool version that doesn't feel like you're listening to a Christmas song. It feels like you're listening to a new pop song.
TWIST: Did you get to meet anyone else who recored on the album?
Josh: Carrie Underwood is actually a very sweet girl. We got to hang out with her.
Zach: She's really fun and great. We actually got to play a celebrity softball challenge with her a while ago.
Josh: One time we had just played the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and Zach walked through there and Carrie was there the same night and we hadn't seen her in a really long time. Someone was knocking on out back door and we were like, "Should we let this person in?" and they kept knocking, so Zach opens the door and it's Carrie. We were both like, "I'm so sorry!" and she's like, "Hey boys! Come with me to my dressing room! I haven't seen you in so long." It was funny because she had this huge bodyguard with her and he thought we were going to do something to her, but Carrie was like "These are my friends!"
TWIST: What are you learning now that you wouldn't have learned in college?
Josh: Zach and I really matured a lot faster than a normal kid our age would. Because a normal kid who is 19 is in their sophomore year of college and doing school, but Zach and I have to think along the lines of someone in their 30s or 40s.
Zach: It's the college of life, that's what we like to call it. I think you learn as much as you would in college, but it's just through real life situations and not in a classroom.
