Simon Cowell is worried. The X Factor producer and judge, who prides himself on having a degree of control over the nation's musical taste, admits he has a 'growing suspicion' that John and Edward Grimes could win this year's show.

The Irish identical twins cannot sing or dance - normally the two main requisites for a pop star.

What's more, they look ridiculous with their gelled-up quiffs and sparkly suits. And when they speak it is often with cringeworthy faux American accents.

Reports that the twins this week won the highest public vote may have been shot down by the show's producers, but John and Edward - or Jedward as they have come to be known - appear to genuinely have the X Factor as far as the public is concerned.
