Double the pleasure, triple the fun

Another difference for parents of multiple babies is they usually don't get to bring them home right away or at the same time.

"Premature births are common in twins," said Weber, neonatal clinical manager. "One goes home after a couple days to a week."

And according to Weber, this is helpful to mom and dad and possibly older siblings at home, to kind of "break" the new one in, one at a time.

"The parents can get a feel for them, their sleep cycle," Weber said.

Arnold said Bradd was the first to come home, then Dereck, then Bryan.

And how could you possibly tell the babies apart? Arnold said not only the features, being they were born fraternal, but by the sound of their cries.

"If I am downstairs or in another room, I can tell which boy is crying," she added.

Bradd's cry is really strong, like he is in colic pain, Arnold said, and Dereck's cry is like a gentle cat. Bryan's cry is "adorable" and usually only when he is hungry.

"He has no colic, so it sounds like a mix between laughing and crying."

Dr. Smith said she reassures her patients dealing with the multiple birth scenarios by telling them it will be easier then it initially seems.

"If you are organized when you bring the babies home, getting them on the same schedule, it will be very doable."

The secret Smith said her patients need to adhere to is while they are pregnant, follow their obstetrician's advice, because the longer they can go through their pregnancy, the better the outcome will be. Delivering as close to term as possible is the secret, says Dr. Smith of Rocky Mountain Fertility Center; she says it's important to limit your activities and follow your OB-GYN's advice to have the most successful pregnancy and long-term outcome for your babies.

We get our diapers delivered to our door, about 250 each 35 days.
